ATS rejects cloud architect resumes missing AWS keywords and architecture metrics
Cloud Solutions Architect roles live in a keyword minefield. You can have ten years of infrastructure experience and still get filtered because you wrote "built scalable systems" instead of "designed multi-region VPC architectures on AWS." Mirror AWS service names and architecture patterns the job posting uses
Open the job description. Copy the AWS services mentioned—VPC, ECS, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, Route 53, whatever appears—and weave those exact names into your resume under accomplishments and skills.
Don't invent services you didn't use. Do list ones you have used that match the stack, even if the posting didn't name them. If the job says "serverless architecture," your Lambda + API Gateway + DynamoDB wins should surface. If it mentions "container orchestration," your ECS or Kubernetes experience should be front and center.
Structure matters. Use this format for each cloud-focused role:
- Role title + company + dates
- 1–2 line context: "Architected cloud infrastructure supporting X users / Y revenue / Z transactions per second"
- 3–5 bullets with AWS services + quantified outcomes (see examples below)

Numbers kill vagueness. Recruiters parsing 400 resumes in a day stop on specifics. ATS systems rank higher on resumes mentioning uptime, latency, cost reduction, deployment frequency, and scaling capacity.
Quantify across these four pillars:
- Availability: "99.99% uptime SLA," "multi-AZ failover under 30 seconds," "zero-downtime deployments"
- Performance: "sub-50ms API latency," "served peak load of 500K requests/sec," "reduced cold-start time from 2.3s to 400ms"
- Cost: "30% infrastructure cost reduction," "optimized reserved instances, saving $890K annually," "rightsized EC2 fleet, eliminating 140 idle instances"
- Speed: "reduced deployment time from 45 minutes to 8 minutes," "CI/CD pipeline success rate 98.7%," "automated infrastructure provisioning, cutting onboarding from 3 days to 2 hours"
Even if you're not sure of exact numbers, use ranges or time windows: "reduced provisioning time by weeks" becomes "cut infrastructure deployment from weeks to hours." Vague but truthful beats silent.
Name architecture frameworks and methodologies by title
ATS systems also filter for architecture maturity. Write Well-Architected Framework if you used it, or Six Pillars (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization, Sustainability). Mention microservices, serverless, event-driven architecture by name.
List certifications with full names: not just "AWS certified" but AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate. Each full title is a keyword cluster ATS scanners depend on.
If you've worked with infrastructure-as-code tools, say it explicitly: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Pulumi. Same for monitoring and logging: CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog, ELK Stack, Splunk.
Audit your resume against the job posting once more
Before you send, scan both documents side-by-side. Highlight every AWS service, tool, and methodology in the job description. Then highlight the same on your resume. Empty gaps = keywords you're missing.
If the job lists "strong VPC design fundamentals" and you never mention VPC, add a bullet. If it asks for "cost optimization" and you have one, move it higher or combine multiple cost wins into one powerful statement.
